This song is a sorrowful, heart-cry from the ghost of a people who have brought about their own downfall through their own foolish and sinful choices. At the same time, there is the echo of generational curses passed down from the fathers to the children. These people cry out in their suffering, confessing their own and their parent’s sins. Such heart-rending grief will never fail to move the heart of our Father God to bring about salvation.
Our parents sinned and are no more
And we bear their punishment
Slaves rule over us
And there is none to free us from their hand

The elders are gone from the city gate
The young men have stopped their music
Joy is gone from our hearts
